Yahoo Japan has launched the Game Plus gaming portal for mobile platforms and PC. It supports HTML5 games and cloud game streaming.
The portal allows you to play free and paid HTML5 games in the browser of your phone or home computer.
Cloud technology also allows you to run “heavy” games on the servers of Game Plus, but it is still unclear whether you can play console-level Final Fantasy XIII titles from mobile devices.
Fifty-two game companies have already agreed to place their titles on Game Plus, including Koei Tecmo and Square Enix. The latter is introducing Antique Carnivale, a new role-playing strategy game, on the Yahoo Japan platform.
There are currently 39 games available on Game Plus.
Yahoo Japan is not the only Japanese company launching its own HTML5 portal this year. The Rakuten firm partnered with developer Blackstorm to introduce the social gaming platform R Games in April 2017.
